EVALUATING THE IMPACTS OF HEALTH COMMUNICATION IN COMBATTING CHOLERA SCOURGE IN LAGOS SUBURB

This research study evaluates the impact of health communication in combating cholera scourge in Lagos suburb .The objectives of the study were to find out if public awareness of cholera scourge is a preventive measures and to know if health communication promotes hygienic practices and engaged community for preventive initiatives .The population of the study comprised the staff of Lagos State Ministry of Health to be administered with a well developed and structured questionnaire to collect data for analysis .The study employed inferential statistics (simple linear regression analysis ) to test the hypotheses at 5% level of significance and data were review using descriptive statistics .The result of the study revealed that ,health communication creates public awareness on preventive measures to reduce the scourge of cholera and also health communication promotes hygienic practices and engaged community for preventive initiatives .Based on the evaluation of the study ,the study recommended that , government and health ministry’s should invest in community education and awareness campaigns ,adopt community engagement like door-door campaigns to increase public participation in preventing the diseases, prioritize water, sanitation and hygiene for preventive measures ,Invest in research and innovative technology to target poor people and optimize health messages ,monitor and evaluates communication strategies for effectiveness on the areas that needs improvement and should build trust in healthcare systems by providing timely and accurate information and ensure healthcare services are accessible to local grassroots.
