Abstract

This study explores the evolution of mother-child communication, contrasting practices from the colonial period with the complexities introduced in the digital era. By examining how communication practices have shifted, the study seeks to understand how these changes influence social bonding, cultural transmission, and emotional connection. While the colonial era was characterised by face-to-face interactions emphasising oral tradition and community-based values, the digital age presents prospects such as global connectivity and access to educational content. However, it also brings challenges, including reduced physical interactions, screen dependency, and potentially eroding cultural traditions. The study uncovers the nuances of these shifts by employing interviews and qualitative analysis to offer insights into the benefits and drawbacks of the digital era, providing recommendations for enhancing mother-child communication in today’s digitally connected world.
